1. What are the 2025 dates?

  • Module 1: Urban Design: Friday 11th July (6pm) to Tuesday 15th July (5pm)
  • Craft module: Wednesday 16th July
  • Module 2:  Architecture: Tuesday 15th July (6pm) to Sunday 20th July (5pm)
  • Combined module 1+ craft day + module 2 : Friday 11th to Sunday 20th July. Please note that combination discounts will only apply if both modules are booked at the same time.

2. What are the rates?

3. Are there any deadlines I should be aware of?

Rate Deadline Payment Requirement
Early Bird Rate Apply, get approved, and pay by 31st March Payment must be received by this date to qualify for the discounted rate.
Standard Rate When courses are full. Applies to payments received after Early Bird closes.

Limited Places: Spots are allocated on a first-approved-and-paid basis.

  • Timing is Key: Your rate is determined by when your payment is received, not when you apply.
  • Application Review Time: Applications are reviewed within 3 to 5 working days, so please factor this into your timeline. They may be reviewed more quickly as deadlines approach.
  • Deadlines: Payment must be completed by the relevant deadline to secure your rate. If payment is delayed, the next rate will apply.

4. What accommodation is provided?

Accommodation and classes will be provided in the historic English Sherborne Boys School, and is in single bedrooms with shared single sex bathrooms. All bedding is provided, but attendees needs to bring their own towel.

  • The residential rate includes accommodation and meals.
  • The Non-Residential rate includes lunch only; participants arrange their own accommodation.

5. What is the application process?

Students must apply to the course by completing the application form at the bottom of the summer school home page. This must include a personal statement which states out motivations for applying, and something that will give us a sense of your current drawing ability such as a portfolio or a sample of your drawing. Applications consisting of only a CV will not be considered.

Information about how to pay will be sent out once your registration is confirmed. Your rate is determined by when your payment is received, not when you apply. Applications are reviewed within a week, so please factor this into your timeline. Application review time will speed up as deadlines for each rate approaches. Payment must be completed by the relevant deadline to secure your rate. If payment is delayed, the next rate will apply. See top of this page for detail of rates and deadlines.

6. Is there a refund policy?

The fee is non-refundable under normal circumstances and it is suggested that insurance is obtained for cancellation.

7. Who can attend the Urban Design summer school?

The course is aimed at early or mid-career professionals, undergraduates and school leavers who are interested in pursuing a career in the built environment. However, anyone over 18 is very welcome.

8. What do I do if I have special dietary/ accessibility requirements?

Answer: You can let us know your requirements in the application form.

9. Do you offer bursaries?

We haven't got funding for bursaries at the moment but this may change.

10. What do I need to bring?

Answer: All necessary equipment will be provided but if students wish to bring their own preferred references or drafting and drawing equipment they may.

For residential reservations, please bring a bath towel as these are not provided.

For those attending the craft day, bring clothing you don't mind getting dirty.

11. How do I get to the Summer School? Hourly trains from London Waterloo to Sherborne in approx. 2 hours 20 minutes. Sherborne school is approx. an 8 minute walk from the station.
